Crowns

Musical Play

July 24-August 9

By Regina Taylor

Adapted from the book by Michael Cunninghan and Craig Marberry, Crowns is a moving and celebratory musical play in which hats become a springboard for an exploration of black history and identity. The story is told through the experience of a young black girl who has moved South. The characters use their “crowns” to tell tales concerning everything from the etiquette of hats to their historical and contemporary social functioning. Gospel music underscores and supports the rich, engaging narratives.!
